Like with any household appliance, you have to maintain it to keep it working as well as the day you bought it.

When you have a Keurig machine, it also needs to be routinely maintained to allow it to smoothly keep serving you coffee every morning.

The water filter is one of the more notable components that need to be maintained when you have a Keruig machine.

But how often should you change your Keurig’s filter to keep it working smoothly?

Generally speaking, a Keruig filter should be replaced every 2 months or 40 gallons of use. Another way people can tell when they should change their Keurig filter is when it changes taste.

If you don’t think you use your coffee maker at an average rate, we can answer this question with some simple math so see how fast you produce 40 gallons of coffee through your Keurig machine:

If you drink one cup of coffee per day (8-16 ouces), and 40 gallons is 5120 ounces, it would take you around 10 months to drink 40 gallons of coffee (5120 / 16).

Fresh brewed coffee is 98% water, so the quality of the water that runs through your Keurig machine is really important to the taste of the coffee it produces.

Over time as the water filter begins to fill up with debris and dirt, and will do a poorer and poorer job of cleaning the water resulting in changes to the taste of the coffee that’s produced over time.

If you don’t change the Keurig filter the water will become dirtier and less clean over time. So much so that given months overdue of a new filter, the taste can being to change in the coffee you make.
