The Keurig K2500 has several error codes associated with this unit. Some of these codes will be passive that will still allow the unit to function normally and there are codes that will require a reset or reboot (unplug/plug and turn it on again).
In addition, there are a few codes that you will not be able to reset on the brewer and you will need to replace components or send it off to an authorized repair shop. Since this unit is still relatively new in the industry as I write this post, I will try my best to give good descriptions for each K2500 Error Code that is available. Error Codes can appear on the home screen and in the Technician Program.
You will notice the error codes jump and skip and are not in order 1,2,3,4,5,…. This is because some codes are reserved for the larger K3500 brewer and do not apply to the K2500.
I always feel it needs to be said. Keurig gives a 1-year warranty and if you are in the warranty period contact the point of your purchase to assist in the process. Keurig takes the warranty very seriously and will give you the best outcome possible.

You need to descale the machine.
The yellow descale icon is on the screen.
This error works a bit differently then the Keurig larger K3500 machine. On the K3500, once the brewer dispenses 2000 brews the unit will ask for it to be descaled. On the K2500, if the brewer has 3 failed brews consecutively the yellow “descale” icon will show on the display. You will need to descale the unit. There are 2 versions of descaling this unit depending on the brewer being plumbed to a water source or if you pour the water in the reservoir.
On the next successful brew from the unit, the descale icon will disappear.
This error is the cold-water tank is not filling up in the given time.
The machine will not function if the fill time goes beyond 60 seconds. Or, it could be the cold tank has overfilled and you need to turn the unit off and on again to reset. There are a few other things to check if this doesn’t clear your error. Check the water source of the machine. This is the most common issue where the water source is interrupted or off. Also, if you use a water filter, it might be time to replace the cartridge as the filter will become plugged over time.
An overfill has been detected.
This error is only for the K2500 that are hooked to the water source. You will not get this error on the K2500 that you pour the water into the reservoir. You will have to check a few things to detect where the issue is originating from.
-Power off the brewer and drain the cold-water tank of the unit from the back. If you hear water entering the machine without power on, then you have an inlet valve issue (seeping) and you will have to replace the inlet valve.
-if you pass the first test, move on to testing the liquid-level probes. It is suggested to perform a descale on the unit and then:
Power off, Drain the cold-water tank, and shut the water source off. Power back on, If the machine moves past the “please connect brewer to a water source” this indicates the Cold-water tank is bad and will need to be replaced.
The brew hot tank is too cold.
This can happen if the machine temperature is under >40F. (If the machine was stored in the cold for any reason) You need to wait for the machine to warm before the start-up procedure. If the Keurig doesn’t clear the error after warming the machine, Keurig states” This is a core component and is NOT replaceable. The unit will need to be taken out of service.”
The brew hot tank has overheated.
The unit senses the hot tank is overheating for longer than 60 seconds This error will stop the use of the machine. Keurig states” This is a core component and is NOT replaceable. The unit will need to be taken out of service.”
Overpressure is detected.
I have seen this error before and have had to clean out the entrance and exit needles as they are most likely clogged. Perform a rinse to try and clear the debris. Try and clear both needles with a paperclip, alternatively, you could remove the shroud that covers the Kcup holder area. Once removed pull off the rubber valve above the entrance needle and clean it from debris. Don’t forget to clean the needle as well. If all else fails, perform the descale procedure.
Dispense timeout perform a rinse.
When the machine dispenses slowly the solution is the same as above error 17 – in addition perform a rinse brew.
The heater has timed out.
The heater had taken longer than 10 minutes to reach optimal temperature. This error code is a good indication the hot water tank module failed. Keurig states” core components and are NOT replaceable. The unit will need to be taken out of service.”
Temperature sensor malfunction
Again, this is a failure of the hot water module and requires machine replacement to repair. Keurig states” core components and are NOT replaceable. The unit will need to be taken out of service.”
Hot water tank fill timeout
Make sure there is a water connection and is on, or the removable reservoir has water in it.
The cold-water tank hasn’t been filled correctly. The level probe is not connecting in the water and the water pump will not turn on. Turn the Keurig off and back on again to reset the system. If this does not fix the problem, replace the hot water tank.
Pump timeout
Make sure there is a water connection and is on, or the removable reservoir has water in it and try restarting the unit. The pump could have an airlock in it where you need to restart the machine. If this fails after 2-3 attempts Keurig states “The water pump is a core component and is NOT replaceable. The unit will need to be taken out of service.”
Software update was not successful.
There won’t be many instances where you will see this error so I won’t give you any great detail, but if you are trying to load new software you will have to attempt the process again.
To reset any errors that occur in the error log, you will need to sign in to the Technician Menu.
After signing in with the passcode 34567, scroll down to the Error Log
Select the Error Log to view.
Select and clear the complete log or an individual Error, the most recent error displayed at the top of the log.
Once the Error Log has been cleared, the Error Log Cleared screen will display for 2 seconds and then return to the Error Log screen.
Brewer does not have power – make sure you have power to the outlet and flip the power switch back on at the back of the machine.
Brewer will not brew for the first time – Try restarting the K2500, make sure water is connected or in the reservoir and the unit hasn’t been in the cold.
Brewer will not brew – Try cleaning the entrance and exit needle and brew a rinse without a Kcup
Brewer produces only a partial cup – Try cleaning the entrance and exit needle, and brew a rinse without a Kcup See error 17. Also, you might have to perform a descaling cycle.
Grounds in the coffee cup Rinse the Kcup holder at the sink. Try cleaning the entrance and exit needle, and brew a rinse without a Kcup at the bottom of the air pump.
